Physician returns to NEPA as director of new Geisinger-Community Medical Center Hospitalist Program

Robert-LeschingskiOriginally from Avoca, Robert Leschingski, M.D., recently returned to the area to join Geisinger-Community Medical Center as director of the newly developed G-CMC Hospitalist Program. He leads the program’s team of internal medicine physicians Ravi Gurusamy, M.D., Shravan Katta, M.D., and George Samuel, M.D., as well as certified physician assistants Tiffany Baker, Mary Ellen Berry, Deborah Jennings and Andrea Picozzo.

Led by Dr. Leschingski, the G-CMC Hospitalist Program provides 24-hour-a-day coverage, seven days a week, for patients admitted to G-CMC. The G-CMC hospitalists care for patients in the hospital setting, regardless of the patient’s physician affiliation. The hospitalists work with the patient’s physicians by communicating patient progress back to their primary care and specialty physicians to ensure a seamless continuum of care.

“The new Geisinger-Community Medical Center Hospitalist Program is off to a successful start under the leadership of Dr. Leschingski,” said Tony Aquilina, D.O., chief medical officer, G-CMC. “We look forward to growing the service for the benefit of other physicians in the community and their patients.”

Prior to joining G-CMC, Dr. Leschingski most recently worked as a hospitalist at ExtendCare Physician Services in Port Charlotte and Englewood, Fla. He was also the division chief of the general medical unit at Unity Health System in Rochester, N.Y., where he also taught internal medicine residents. In addition, Dr. Leschingski served as a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, where he was the recipient of the Stewart Teaching Award and the Kohn Teaching Fellowship, both recognizing his commitment as an educator.

Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Leschingski earned his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University College of Medicine, Philadelphia. He brings with him more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare profession, including administration, the recruitment of faculty, and medical care cost management.
