Dear Friends:
As you know, we have announced that we have signed a definitive agreement to fully merge and integrate Community Medical Center and all of its entities into Geisinger Health System, resulting in the Scranton area’s most comprehensive and integrated healthcare system.
Please be assured that Geisinger is committed to continuing CMC’s tradition of charitable, compassionate care, maintaining an open medical staff, and working with the community to find new ways to best meet the needs of our employees, patients, families and friends.
This new relationship is a great opportunity for us, especially when we consider how we will be able to build programs, grow services, improve health outcomes and demonstrate value. Together, we will enhance our ability to provide superior care and service for all the residents of this region.
Geisinger has committed to invest $158.6 million over seven years in CMC and Northeast Pennsylvania to enhance clinical programs, increase physician recruitment, expand and improve facilities, and implement new information systems—including Geisinger’s electronic health record technology.
This has been a conscientious and deliberate decision by both parties. It was important for CMC to become part of a growing health system with proven success—and equally important for Geisinger to partner with a quality not-for-profit organization with a compatible mission, values and standards of care.
Please join us in celebrating this exciting new chapter in Northeast Pennsylvania history. We anticipate it will take approximately six months to finalize the merger, and we will be communicating further information to you in the weeks to come.
Best Regards,
