Geisinger-Community Medical Center IT Update – Epic Kick-off Held on Monday

Epic kick-off held on Monday
Work continues on Information Technology improvements at G-CMC

Full implementation at Geisinger-Community Medical Center of the various Geisinger information technology (IT) applications, connectivity and infrastructure is expected to take 18 to 24 months. We will update you when we have additional information regarding the overall IT implementation, including the voice network (telephone), e-mail system and connectivity to the Geisinger data system for all employees.

Work is already underway, though, on high priority elements of the overall IT plan including infrastructure capacity and upgrades, Epic™ and related clinical systems applications. A kick-off event was held at G-CMC on Monday to share how the Epic electronic medical record will further enhance patient safety and outcomes.

Computer stations have been installed on the various G-CMC patient care units (excluding psych) where providers can gain entry to Epic through their Geisinger-At-Home access. There will continue to be a number of providers without Epic access for some time; however, and it is important for providers to follow the current G-CMC charting procedures. Contact G-CMC associate vice president for information technology Sean McAndrew at 570-703-8245 with any questions.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we move though this complicated and intricate IT implementation.
